Don’t fear lifesaving vaccines
Vaccines save lives. They are not a conspiracy and do not cause autism. A discredited UK physician made money saying the MMR vaccine caused autism. He made up his research but very sadly his legacy lives on. There are so many young adults now at risk of sterility from mumps, getting measles and giving it to their newborns and I am old enough to live through the torch syndrome taught in the ’80s in medical school.
I saw rubella in neonates at Sickkids Hospital. I hope to never see another. We can choose to live in our reactive minds — fear filled — or our intellect, just factual, or something better, our wise minds. It is not easy but neither is life. We make the best decisions we can. I just send aloha and pray we can all make decisions using our wisest minds.
Vaccines save lives. I do not see them as evil nor as an conspiracy to make money for evil corporations. I share from the bottom of my heart and soul that they help.

Gov money for homeless a waste
It boggles the mind why all these moralizing nannies and business-owner millionaires have such a bug up there derriere about a few impoverished people.
Why do they care that a fraction of the budget is spent on a few citizens who can’t make it on $7 an hour? Do these Octogenarians have nothing better to do?
Besides some long-haired kids sitting on the sea wall enjoying the sun, and a handful at the Friendly Place shelter, there are only about six people in Kona with cardboard signs asking for money. I’ve been here for years and have counted them. There are many more homeless of course, and about 50,000 Big Island residents getting government assistance, but they are not seen on the street.
I really hope these conservative curmudgeons are not putting down the 60 percent living on our island receiving public money. They would be insulting 2/3 of the island.
So it is abysmally petty that they are getting in a snit over six poor people on the street. I give homeless people money all the time and so should everyone.
Let’s not forget, Jesus was a homeless person.
And as I recall, uptight conservatives back then gave him a real bad time, too. Some things never change.
